New UN report recommends organic agriculture as a means of providing food security and eradicating hunger in Africa
The UN report recommends organic agricultural production, both certified and uncertified, as a means of ensuring food security for the millions of Africans with an uncertain food supply.
UNCTAD (the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development) has carried out a survey on 1.6 million small farmers in East Africa employing organic agricultural methods – and the conclusion is unequivocal: following the changeover from traditional farming methods to organic agricultural farming, yields rose by 128% and roughly 90% of the farmers reported greater disposable incomes.
